The Colabora Birmania Team

In 2008, four people who hadn´t met were experiencing the same restlessness and each decided to embark on a journey around the world. What they didn´t know was that their curiosity for the unknown and their willingness to work would bring them together in Mae Sot, a small town in Thailand, 4 km from the Burmese border. There they met volunteering in schools for Burmese immigrants, giving English classes to children and to Buddhist monks. As time went on, they discovered the reality of a people who, subject to the injustices of a dictatorship, have seen it necessary to flee their country. After this experience, the four former strangers decided to create an organization and work together with the Burmese refugees in Mae Sot in a professional and permanent way. And thus, Colabora Birmania was born, in October of 2009: a project that to this day we continue fighting for with the same vigor as the first day, together with new professionals who have joined us along the way.
